Job Description

Armed Security Officer Houston, TX (North Cypress Area)

Protect. Mentor. Lead.

Serve with Purpose.Houston, TexasAt Tier One, we believe every person deserves to feel safe where they work, receive medical care, worship, or do business. As an Armed Security Officer, you'll be more than a uniform — the calm professional who brings confidence during uncertainty, the trusted presence people rely on, and the first line of defense when safety matters most.If you've worn a badge, served in the military, worked in security, or simply feel called to protect others, you already understand that real security is about earning trust — not just carrying a firearm.
About the Assignment
This position supports a healthcare and community-safety environment at a major medical campus in the Houston area. Officers assigned to this program provide a highly visible, professional security presence for medical facilities, surrounding businesses, employees, patients, visitors, and community stakeholders.
The role requires mature judgment, strong communication, de-escalation skills, and the ability to professionally address trespassing, loitering, panhandling, disturbances, suspicious activity, and other safety concerns. The goal is not confrontation. The goal is to create a safer environment created through presence, professionalism, documentation, communication, and sound decision-making.
What You'll Do
Working under the direction of your Supervisor, you will:
● Provide a highly visible, professional security presence protecting employees, patients, visitors, customers, contractors, and client property.
● Patrol assigned areas — indoors and outdoors — to deter criminal activity and identify safety or security concerns before they escalate.
● Professionally address trespassing, loitering, panhandling, disturbances, and suspicious activity through presence, communication, and sound judgment.
● Build trusted relationships with client leadership, employees, visitors, tenants, and local law enforcement.
● Monitor access control, surveillance, visitor management, and alarm systems.
● Identify, investigate, respond to, and document suspicious activity, emergencies, and security incidents.
● Support medical emergencies, disturbances, fire alarms, and other critical incidents in accordance with client protocol.
● Coordinate with local law enforcement, fire, and emergency responders when appropriate.
● Enforce client policies and security procedures, and act within applicable law, using professionalism and restraint.
● Provide exceptional customer service while maintaining a safe, secure environment.
● Prepare accurate, timely incident reports and daily activity logs.
● Adhere to Tier One's use-of-force, de-escalation, and professional conduct standards at all times.
● Represent Tier One with professionalism, integrity, and excellence every day.
What You'll Need
● Minimum 21 years of age.
● High school diploma or GED (college coursework or degree preferred).
● Active Texas Level III Commissioned Security Officer License preferred; strong candidates without a current license may be considered for Tier One's training pipeline (see Training & Licensing below).
● Ability to legally possess and carry a firearm while performing assigned duties.
● Ability to pass all background investigations, drug screening, and licensing requirements.
● Current CPR, AED, and basic first-aid certification, or the ability to obtain it upon hire.
● Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods, including outdoor patrol in Houston weather.
● Ability to professionally interact with patients, visitors, business owners, employees, law enforcement, individuals in crisis, and the general public.
● Ability to write clear, factual, and timely incident reports and daily activity logs.
● Demonstrated emotional control, de-escalation ability, and sound judgment in public-facing situations.
● Must complete Tier One's firearms qualification, duty-weapon inspection, post-offer physical/job-function screening, and field-readiness evaluation.
● Ability to meet Tier One's physical and professional performance standards.
Who Thrives Here
The best people in this role are calm under pressure, emotionally mature, and dependable. Retired and former law enforcement officers, military veterans, experienced security professionals, and first responders all do well here.
This is not a role for someone seeking confrontation. The right officer understands that professionalism, restraint, communication, and presence are almost always more effective than force — and that sound judgment protects people, the client, and the community. What our best people share is their judgment, integrity, compassion, and a genuine commitment to public safety.
Training & Licensing
Active Texas Level III Commissioned Security Officer License preferred. Strong candidates without a current license may be considered for Tier One's training pipeline — but assignment to armed duty requires successful completion of all licensing, background, firearms, physical, and field-readiness requirements.
For qualified candidates, Tier One offers training support based on licensing status, hiring needs, and program availability, and may cover Texas Level III licensing fees upon successful completion. We don't simply hire employees — we develop professionals.
What We Offer
● Competitive hourly compensation based on licensing, experience, assignment, and shift
● Medical, dental, vision, life, and critical illness insurance (W-2 employment)
● Company-paid uniforms and equipment
● Paid training and continuing education
● Training and licensing support for qualified candidates
● Opportunities for advancement into supervisory, training, technology, and leadership roles
● A culture built on professionalism, service, accountability, and teamwork
